4 Signs You Need an AC Repairman in Southwest Missouri

 In HVAC

With the rising costs of almost everything in today’s day and age, we understand wanting to DIY certain tasks around the house to save a little money.

Fixing something without the help of a handyman also feels good – it gives you a real sense of accomplishment. However, there are a few DIY fixes you should never attempt on your own, and one of those is AC repair, even if the problem seems simple enough.

First of all, you could jeopardize your warranty, and second, it could cost you more in the long run if your DIY fix doesn’t work. Here’s when to call in the expertise of an AC repairman.

1. Your AC Unit Blows Little to No Air

In the heat of summer, the last thing you need is an AC unit that’s just not cooling your home efficiently. If your AC unit seems like it’s not blowing out enough cool air, or is not blowing any cool air at all, it’s time to schedule an air conditioner repair.

Very often this points to an issue with your AC compressor, or there might be something obstructing the air ducts. It’s not a hugely expensive repair job and usually involves replacing a few basic parts.

Do not attempt to fix this issue on your own though, be sure to call in professional AC services.

2. The Unit Blows Hot Air, Instead of Cold

This is a similar issue to the above-mentioned, however, your AC unit blows hot/warm air when it’s supposed to be cold. No doubt, this poses a big issue when trying to cool your home in the height of summer.

Again, this is usually not a major issue and could point to either low refrigerant levels, or a leak in your AC’s refrigerant lines (don’t leave refrigerant leaks unattended!).

While this is not an extensive repair job, it is complicated for someone who doesn’t know their way around an AC unit. It’s better to call in the professionals for home AC maintenance.

3. Loud, Unusual Noises

It’s 100 percent normal for your AC unit to make some noise – especially when it’s just starting up and the unit begins to cool down. However, it is not normal if you hear loud screeching, squealing, buzzing, clanging, or banging noises.

Screeching, scraping, or grinding noises could point to a problem with fan belts, or parts that could have come loose and are rubbing against one another. If your unit begins to make any unusual sounds you haven’t heard before, call an HVAC technician sooner rather than later.

4. Unpleasant Smells

The bottom line is that your AC shouldn’t emit any unpleasant, foul, or unusual smells. In fact, the air coming from the unit should not smell like anything.

If your unit begins to produce an odor that smells like mold, burning wire or has a sharp, metallic smell, this is cause for concern. This could point to major cooling system issues, worn-out parts, or the need for a deep clean
